About me
I am a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with special interests in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, maternal medicine and the menopause. I qualified as a Medical Doctor and Surgeon in 1979, having studied at the University of Cambridge. I then trained at Addenbrooks, Cambridge, St John Radcliffe in Oxford, then at Queen Charlotte’s Maternity Hospital, the Chelsea Hospital for Women, and St Thomas’ Hospital (all in London), before becoming a specialist consultant in Guildford in 1991.
My experience spans a wide range of gynaecological practice, ranging from colposcopy, continence and prolapse surgery, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery to management of women’s health issues from menstruation and fertility to perimenopause, menopause and beyond. I also offer obstetric experience in the care of medical problems in pregnancy such as diabetes and thyroid disease, and I love the excitement and challenge of the labour ward!
I am an educator by nature having trained many aspiring Gynaecologists and Obstetricians who have gone on to achieve great things (including some of our customers!). I take the same approach with patients, using words that people can understand, and often drawings. Understanding allows better decision-making, which produces a better outcome for patient and doctor alike.
In 2013, I became a doctorpreneur, founding Dr Morton’s, an accessible virtual consultation service focused on supporting women of all ages through their health journey. After years of dealing with a multitude of women’s health issues over the phone I concluded that medicine had been slow to embrace technology and was somewhat stuck in a past era where it was traditional for all patients to come and sit in front of the doctor when they have a problem, whether they needed to be examined or not. There was also a lack of specialist women’s health knowledge in general practice and a shortage of women’s health consultants in secondary care. Today, Dr Morton’s not only offers its women’s health services to individuals but to the NHS, employers and private health organisations.

Why I am passionate about working in women’s health
Women need, for gynaecological reasons (eg contraception, period problems, fertility and pregnancy, then menopausal matters) to seek medical advice more often than men. Indeed, a 2025 Health and Safety Executive’s survey showed that women are twice as likely as men to take time off work than men for their own (not their children’s) health issues. Women over 55 recorded the highest average health-related absence, missing 1.31 workdays annually – nearly double the national average of 0.67 days – largely due to menopause issues. Having juggled demanding jobs with raising my three boys and with hormonal changes as I have grown older, I know first-hand what it is like to try to balance gender-related health issues with work.
Additionally, specialist advice is often inaccessible for those who need it. While I believe passionately in the NHS, women are suffering because of long waiting lists. There are also affordability issues with ‘going private’. Our mission at Dr Morton’s is to deal with this health inequality, empowering women of all ages to get the help they need when and where they need it, whether they are an employee or an individual.
